Medieval Banquet To dine For!

What a great dining experience! As mentioned in the previous post (London Snippets) we will be writing to you about our experience dining at Medieval Banquet and Merriment, London. It is situated by St. Katherine Docks, just 5 mins walk away from the Tower Hill (District line) or Tower Gate (DLR) station. Medieval Banquet London sure does bring the excitement to anyone the moment you see the metal knight statue by its entrance. You have to book the ticket online as it is reservation only, and you are only permitted to enter when the doors open at 7.15pm from Wednesdays to Saturdays, meals, and entertainments will start from 7.45pm. Whilst on Sundays, the doors will open at 5.15pm, and the meals and entertainments will start from 5.45pm. We arrived at the venue rather early thus decided to have a cup of coffee each from Starbucks, but 10 mins later a long queue was already forming consisting of visitors; mostly families, and visitors in a group of 4 to 6, who have decided to visit the Medieval Banquet as part of their London holiday itinerary.

As you enter the doors, friendly staffs (wenches) will greet you and show you to your table after you have showed them your printed online tickets. Once you are seated at your allocated table, you will have some time to get to know other guests sitting together with you at the table before the entertainment begins. Guests sitting with you (usually between 8 to 10 people) will be considered as your ‘colleagues’ from the same honorary houses. Show begins when King Henry gives his speech and asks his audience to read out the mead oath, and sing the house song to initiate the banquet.

Through out the night, you will be served with 4-course meal and bottomless drinks (red wine, beer, ale, soft drinks, and water) which are all inclusive in your Medieval Banquet tickets. All you need to do to have your drinks refilled is by calling (yelling) out for the wench, or by banging the table to catch her attention. Other drinks are also available from their bar. To add more fun to your banquet, we would recommend renting out a medieval costume before King Henry’s speech to join his cheerful spirit. Costumes are available for hire from only £10.00, and they also offer smaller sizes for their younger guests.

To simplify the description of meals served at the banquet, we had….

  • 1st course   :Selection of finest cold roast meats, pate, cheddar cheese and salad.
  • 2nd course :Soup made with a blend of market vegetables.
  • 3rd course :Fresh roast chicken covered in a traditional medieval sauce
  • 4th course  :A rich fruit filled pie served with cream

You can always ask for a slightly altered menu when you are reserving your tickets online if you require any specific dietary requirement, such as vegetarian meal, or beef/pork free dishes. We also found out that the Medieval Banquet may alter their menu accordingly to the season e.g. Christmas season. It is also a good idea to have light lunch/tea as the 4-course meal would be really filling! We enjoyed all the dishes, however we find the combination of roasted chicken and traditional medieval sauce most appetising. Overall we were very satisfied with everything, and we are planning to visit the Medieval Banquet again in Autumn.

For visitors coming from outside London for holiday, we would recommend booking the ticket using London Pass discount code as you will enjoy 30% discount for your Medieval Banquet booking. Not only that, London Pass will give you inclusive access to other famous attractions such as the Windsor Castle, Hampton Court Palace, ZSL London Zoo, and many more! We will leave you for now with some of the pictures taken at the banquet, and we hope you enjoyed our post this time.
